Process of Admission
The best way to get to know WCF initially is through our website. Here you will find information about the school as well as many answers to questions you might have. Please feel free to call or email us at any time for clarification or other questions. The next step is to visit the school, either by attending on of our open houses in the fall or spring, or by scheduling a school tour during the week. Once you decide WCF is the right place for your family, we will ask you to fill out an application. We accept applications throughout the year. In the event that our school is full, we hold applications on a waiting list until a space becomes available.
Tuition
Tuition at Wildcat Community FreeSchool is based on how many days your child attends. We strive to keep tuition as low as possible, and are working to develop a scholarship fund for a future school year. Tuition payments are due at the first of each month, with a materials fee equal to half of one month tuition due at the time of acceptance at WCF (i.e. If your child attends three days per week, a materials fee for the school year would be $275).
The tuition scale is as follows:
- Three days per week: $550
- Four days per week: $650
- Five days per week: $750
Family Responsibilities and Contributions
Each family is responsible for paying tuition and the materials fee in a timely manner. In addition, each family is required to contribute 20 work hours per year and maintain a specific job at the school for the entirety of the year. This helps keep the school running smoothly and tuition rates down, but is also a part of participating in the deeply connected community of families at WCF.
Open Houses and School Tours
We schedule multiple open houses throughout the school year. During the open houses, staff and parents of the school will be available to give tours and answer questions. Children are always welcome. To schedule a tour of the school during the week, please call us at 510-237-6673 or email us at info@wildcatcommunityfreeschool.org.

Kid testimonials
Tolkien
"I like that I have friends, I can ride my bike, that my friends like to play with me and I can play with them, that I can make new friends, and that I can play with the dogs, especially Newbie. I like to pet Little Joe (the rabbit), write about small moments, counting to 100, and doing food math."
Parent testimonials
Syndallas (mother of Tolkien)
"Things I like about WCFS: Kids are supported building their relationships with each other. I love the imaginative play that permeates Wildcat and the respect their play is given by the teachers. Tolkien can spend so much of his day in motion. Kids work out problems and make decisions about their learning. Kids of all ages play together and consider each other friends. They spend so much time outside in natural spaces across the street. That the kids' creative ideas are an essential part of what happens at school. The day isn't filled with plans which can't bend. The respect that I receive for my ideas for Tolkien's education. I really appreciate Sara and Kent's honest feedback. I feel like we're partners."
Ranjan (father of Tolkien):
"I like that Tolkien's alwayslooking forward to going to school every morning. The kids arrange playdates while they are at school - always make sure there is another seat in the minivan! Tolkien has such a huge impact over how his educational experience goes. I like that Tolkien spent three weeks learning to ride a bike at school; he got help from the older kids and it was fine with the school."
Jenn (mother of Alex)
" I like that the school allows the kids to have a choice, that the setting is natural and creative, the interactionbetween teachers and students is nurturing, and that the parent's input is important. Alex likes the school because he is a big fish in a small pond, that he has choice, and that there is a lot of emotional support so that his shy and creatve self can bloom."
